Sidney and Tammy Moorer Ordered By Judge To Give Hand Writing Samples. In a Medicaid Fraud Case against them.

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A judge has ordered Sidney and Tammy Moorer to both submit handwriting samples requested by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

During a motion hearing Monday morning, prosecutors argued handwriting samples from both are needed to compare to Medicaid applications. The Moorers are accused of making false statements on applications for Medicaid assistance and obtaining property through Medicaid under false pretense. This was the first time they had been in a courtroom together since Sidney Moorer was convicted of Obstruction of Justice in August of 2017.

The two briefly said hello to one another when Tammy Moorer was escorted into the room. The Moorers sat at different sides of the same table with attorneys between them.

An attorney representing Tammy Moorer argued against the request, saying the state already has multiple examples of her handwriting and arguing handwriting changes over time.

Sidney Moorer was represented by a public defender after it was determined he did not have an attorney there to represent him.

The public defender asked for the hearing to be heard at a later date, stating they did not have any time to prepare for the hearing. The judge ordered the Moorers to submit the requested handwriting samples within 30 days.

Defense attorney Greg McCollum, who represented Tammy Moorer during her kidnapping trial, was present but did not speak during the hearing.

The Moorers appeared to speak briefly with one another at the conclusion of the hearing, but it is unknown what was said. Tammy Moorer smiled at her husband as she walked out of the room.

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The two people charged in connection with the 2013 disappearance of Heather Elvis are expected to appear in an Horry County courtroom this week.

A court roster shows both Sidney and Tammy Moorer are set to appear at 9:30 a.m. Monday, on a motion pertaining to handwriting samples.

Monday’s scheduled court appearance comes one day before the five-year anniversary of Elvis’ disappearance on Dec. 18, 2013.

In October, Tammy Moorer was found guilty of both kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping charges that stemmed from the investigation. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Last month, a parole board denied Sidney Moorer's request for release from prison. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail after being found guilty in 2017 of obstruction of justice for impeding the investigation into Elvis’ disappearance.

In June 2016, a mistrial was declared in Sidney Moorer’s kidnapping trial. A new trial is set to be held in Georgetown County, although a date has not yet been scheduled.

The Moorers are also both charged with including a false statement on an application for Medicaid assistance and obtaining a signature or property under false pretenses.

It’s unknown if Monday’s scheduled court appearances are for those counts, or if it’s in relation to the Elvis case.

The documents revealed Taylor had told the FBI about an argument he overheard in June 2016 between two people whose names were redacted from the records.

The quarrel was sparked by an accusation that someone had Drexel’s cellphone.
